Lukáš Sommer “Point.....?” - Lexington Chamber Orchestra
Though Point…? is a relative miniature, Sommer has created three distinct sections that give the impression of a longer composition. The first is a polyphonic interplay between ever-changing duos and trios within the orchestra. The melodies arc from short motifs to medium length phrases and back again, creating a sense of completeness. The middle portion features a unique rhythmic lilt created by juxtaposing measures of two, three, and five beats. Although the rhythmic elements are usual, the melody is wholesome and pastoral. The final section quickens into a blur of sixteenth notes traded between the violins, violas, and cellos giving it a chase-like urgency. The piece ends with a bombastic run to the finish worth of a Keeneland race.

This work was performed by the Lexington Chamber Orchestra under the artist direction of Maestro Jan Pellant and was featured on their concert series titled "European Landscapes” in 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Lexington, KY.
